UK Warns Chinese Travellers From Wuhan To Self-Isolate

Around 1,500 people who came to Britain from the Chinese epicentre of the coronavirus epidemic in the past two weeks must put themselves in isolation, the UK health minister said Monday.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said authorities “cannot be 100 per cent certain” that the virus cannot spread from a person who exhibits no flu-like symptoms.

“From today, we are therefore asking anyone in the UK who has returned from Wuhan in the last 14 days to self-isolate,” Hancock told a parliamentary hearing.

“Do not leave home until you have been given advice by a clinician.”

Hancock said health officials continued to trace people who have arrived in the UK from Wuhan.

“Having eliminated those who we know have since left the country, there are 1,460 people we are seeking to locate.”

Britain has not recorded any confirmed cases of the disease.

The Foreign Office said Monday it was “working to make an option available for British nationals to leave (Wuhan’s) Hubei province due to the heavy travel restrictions and increased difficulty of accessing consular or medical assistance.”

Plane crash ‘killed a lot US service members’ – Taliban claims responsibility

Taliban has claimed responsibility for the Monday  plane crash , saying it was a US forces aircraft. The plane went down in an area controlled largely by the Taliban in eastern Afghanistan. Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the crash killed “lots” of US service members, according to Al Jazeera. “An aircraft of American occupiers has crashed in Ghazni province,” Mujahid said in a statement in the Pashto language, adding that all crew members onboard were killed. The Taliban statement on Monday came hours after reports suggested the plane was from state-owned Ariana Afghan Airlines. However, the Afghanistan airline said the rumours were “not true,” adding that “All the flights of Ariana Afghan Airlines have been completed normally,” read a statement on the carrier’s verified Facebook page. The Civil Aviation Authority of Afghanistan also denied reports that the plane was the country’s commercial flight. “According to our information … no commercial airline crash has been ...

Coronavirus: Japan set to repatriate 200 citizens from Wuhan

Japan will send a chartered flight to the central Chinese city of Wuhan later in the day to repatriate about 200 of its citizens, the government says. The government will also send doctors, nurses and quarantine officers so that those Japanese citizens can undergo checkups on a plane, according to the health ministry. The aircraft is scheduled to come back to Japan on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi says. Since a total of 650 Japanese in Wuhan wish to return, the government will send more flights to take them home, Motegi says. China and countries around the world are scrambling to contain the spread of the coronavirus that has killed at least 106 people and infected more than 4,500. Germany has reported its first case of the virus, as the U.S., and Canada upgraded travel warnings to advise their citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to China. More than 56 million people in almost 20 Chinese cities – including Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province and the epicentre of the...
