Ghanaians remember Ebony Reigns two years after her death

Today, Saturday, February 8, 2020 marks exactly two years since Ebony Reigns, born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng passed on.

The catastrophic news that the vibrant Afro-beat and Dancehall artiste could no longer be considered among the living came as a shock to many Ghanaians.

Ghanaweb reports that the ‘Sponsor’ singer died in a fatal road accident on the Sunyani-Kumasi road.

A Jeep with the registration AS 497-16 she was travelling in from Sunyani to Kumasi had a head-on collision with a VIP bus heading towards Sunyani from Kumasi.

Ebony, who was 20 years old at that time, died with two other persons, a military officer identified as Francis Atsu Vondee and a lady friend called Frankie.

However, the driver of the vehicle escaped death.

The music diva was laid to rest on March 24, 2018, at the Osu Cemetery.

Ebony’s Impact in Ghana’s music industry

Ebony’s dominance in the music industry was not only with her songs but also in her stage crafts. As many new and young artistes would copy the style of their role models and people they admire, Ebony, “The 90s Bad Girl”, as she was affectionately called, was of her own unique style and stride, ‘doing her own things.’

The brand Ebony was a household name within the populace of music lovers in Ghana. She was too hot like her music, vibrating her way through all music playing channels. She was a brand that many known artistes dared not to underestimate, both in Ghana and abroad.

Ebony is credited with hit songs such as ‘Kupe’, ‘Poison’, ‘Sponsor’, ‘Date your father’, ‘Hustle’, ‘Maame Hw3’, and ‘Aseda.’

The artiste also became the first female singer in Ghana to win the overall artiste of the year in the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Award.

For many music lovers, Ebony faced no competition either from her female counterparts nor the male artistes in 2017.

How fans are celebrating her 2years anniversary

Fans of the songstress are currently flooding social media with messages to honour the death of their late queen.

Pogba steps up injury comeback for Man United

Paul Pogba has had his ankle cast removed as he steps up his attempt to return from injury for Manchester United. The France international has only started one Premier League match since August in a campaign heavily interrupted by his fitness woes. United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was unable to put a timescale on Pogba’s return to action ahead of Wednesday’s derby against Manchester City in the EFL Cup. But Solskjaer reported Pogba has made a key step in his recovery following surgery, as has fellow midfielder Scott McTominay, who is no longer wearing a knee brace. “It’s hard to put timescales on long-term injuries because they also need the training before [being] injury-free and need to be fitter,” Solskjaer told reporters. “Paul’s had his cast off and Scott took his brace off so at least they can now start doing some work on the grass.” Reports have suggested Pogba and McTominay are both targeting injury returns after the mid-season break, with United to play Chelsea on February 17 ...

Plane crash ‘killed a lot US service members’ – Taliban claims responsibility

Taliban has claimed responsibility for the Monday  plane crash , saying it was a US forces aircraft. The plane went down in an area controlled largely by the Taliban in eastern Afghanistan. Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the crash killed “lots” of US service members, according to Al Jazeera. “An aircraft of American occupiers has crashed in Ghazni province,” Mujahid said in a statement in the Pashto language, adding that all crew members onboard were killed. The Taliban statement on Monday came hours after reports suggested the plane was from state-owned Ariana Afghan Airlines. However, the Afghanistan airline said the rumours were “not true,” adding that “All the flights of Ariana Afghan Airlines have been completed normally,” read a statement on the carrier’s verified Facebook page. The Civil Aviation Authority of Afghanistan also denied reports that the plane was the country’s commercial flight. “According to our information … no commercial airline crash has been ...
