The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami said his office has been inundated with complaints and enquiries concerning the recent 7.5% VAT deductions on voice calls and text messages, by some Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).
In a press release on Thursday 6th February, 2020 signed by the Spokesperson to the Honourable Minister of Communications & Digital Economy, Uwa Suleiman (Mrs), she said that while the Ministry appreciate the support and efforts of well meaning Nigerians who have sought clarifications in a civil manner, the Ministry says that the issues of VAT, do not fall under the Ministry’s purview.
“The office of the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy is not mandated to handle VAT, Uwa said.
The statement read, “In the same vein, we also wish to notify the general public that contrary to popular opinion in some quarters, the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy had no prior consultation or awareness about the development. All further enquiries and clarifications may henceforth be directed to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), being the proper institution for tax matters.
“The Honourable Minister assures all Nigerians that under his leadership, the interest of all Nigerians will be protected, the statement concluded.

FA Cup: Man Utd set condition to sack Solskjaer, identify replacement

Manchester United may consider sacking manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, if results do not improve at the Old Trafford this season, the Daily Mail reports. England boss, Gareth Southgate, has now emerged as a leading contender to take over after Euro 2020. United are keen for Solskjaer to turn things around, but the 46-year-old privately acknowledges he will not be given three years to win a trophy like Jurgen Klopp was at Liverpool. The fans chanted against the owners after losing to Burnley at Old Trafford last Wednesday and left before the full-time whistle. United face an FA Cup fourth-round tie at Tranmere on Sunday, then meet Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday trailing 3-1 from the first leg.
